Powell River Supportive Housing

Ron Hart Architecture was retained to design this 44 unit supportive housing building. Over forty permanent homes for people at risk of homelessness were developed and occupied by the end of 2019. The site was successfully rezoned to accommodate this housing project. The timeline for the project from design through to occupancy was compressed into about 15 months. We were able to achieve this by modifying the design process to include concurrent design streams with overall coordinated building design, leading to the process and modular component design occurring nearly simultaneously. The result being that RHA and the manufacturer were able to compress the typical development timeline of a project of this scale in a region currently suffering a deficit in skilled labour. This innovation and value engineering resulted in an excellent project delivered ahead of schedule and under budget. STEP level 3 was achieved in this project.
